We had all worked with Michel Delage and were happy he was interested in joining the group.Ī: Ken is doing most of the writing and providing practice space and recording facilities, Steve is doing most of the marketing and some writing, Keith is doing some arranging and providing practice space and Michel gets up early to practise with the old-timers! Everyone in the band is pitching in. Q: What appeals to the members of this group in terms of its lineup, its personalities, its sound, and its material?Ī: The band play instruments that often are in a supporting role. We each get to showcase our melodic and improv abilities, while also finding new ways to contribute either comping, bass, or counterpoint. The group shares an exploratory spirit, willingness to both try new things and hone down the arrangements until the music is tight and focused, and of course a sense of humour, which is absolutely necessary with this combination. The material is a combination of songs we’ve all kept in our pockets that we wanted to play, plus new compositions. We’re finding this is more and more vital, as it enables us to best work with the unique instrumentation. KWOM will be raffling a pair of 3-day passes at our next event to one lucky winner who will get the gift of a magical experience at Stir Fry Music and Arts Festival 2015.The front-line combo with tuba and trombone is excellent, and to have a cello play the bass lines suits the tuba well as the ranges don’t fight each other. The first tier 3-day pass is a hundred dollars, second tier 3-day passes are a hundred and fifty, and third tier 3-day passes are a hundred and seventy-five. Tickets go on sale May 1 st and will be sold in tiers. Who knows, maybe Derek may even end up Dj-ing our Silent Disco tent, just as Mark Foster of Foster the People did for us last year at Stir Fry. Derek is currently on his “Taking Up Your Precious Time” tour and though he is not on the bill for this festival, he plans on attending in support of musicians he respects and appreciates. Fans from all over the country are expected to be traveling to the festival to hear what could be a one of a kind Pretty Lights experience. We will also be setting up our Silent Disco tent so that the party can continue late into the next morning without the inconvenience of disturbing other campers throughout the festival who are resting up for the performances to come.ĭerek Vincent Smith of Pretty Lights is rumored to be organizing a set with musicians from several of the acts performing that weekend. Walking vendors are also encouraged to help promote a creative social environment. There will be plenty of vendors trading art, clothes, jewelry and all sorts of treasures. Other headlining acts this year are Dopapod, Papadosio, Keller Williams, John Butler Trio, Lettuce, Lotus, Emancipator, Consider the Source, and many more. Our very own Dj “Jazzy” George Kotsiras was just announced to be one of the main acts headlining this year’s Stir Fry Music & Arts Festival in Scranton, Pennsylvania, July 9 th to July 12th.
